Living w/o debts

In the current economy, must envy those who are living w/o debts. These are the ones who can plan to do up their renovation, or car purchase with 100% cash up front. They avoided interests. Even better, they still have funds for investments and/or businesses.

For most other people, I guess, that's a luxury. Some may have no better choices but to live with interests, while some who could do similar, but choose to have cash on hand to invest or run businesses for higher ROI. Then, how to maintain low interests is very important.

Especially, it is very seldom anybody is able and willing to pay full cash for property. The Money Magic site offers much information about mortgage, such as definitions of terms, rationale of plans and they offer service to source for the deal that is right for you and your circumstances.

Insurance as a kind of charity

I was roughly told about the beginning of insurance by an insurance agent. It was about risks in the transportation of cargo. Some how, a group of people pull together a combined fund to compensate the unlucky ones who lost their cargo due to unforeseen mishaps. Thus, it provides a kind of assurance to businessmen if and when these tragic situation arise. Subsequently, the concept and mechanism of insurance started to apply to more things and events, such as home insurance and car insurance, and even life insurance.

So, I consider insurance as a kind of charity that helps those, including possibly ourselves, who might become unfortunate in the future by many people each putting a small amount into a fund. Quite similar to charity, where many people each contributing some amount for a particular group of already unfortunate ones, usually they will not be one of them.

Is your family fashionable?

I think family values has nothing to do with being old-fashioned, which was how PM Lee described it, "old-fashioned family values," as reported in Today when responding to 377A issues.

Being old-fashioned sound bad, but it doesn't really mean bad.

Being out-of-fashioned might sound and mean "bad".

However, we look at the suitability of family values, not whether they are new or old. Family values are values that promote, encourage and support healthy, happy and good families to be built and sustained. Indeed, the society changes, so do the ways one practises family values. However, the family values do not change because the practises change. The family values might change for the better, because in so doing it provides better and stronger promotion/encouragement/support for healthy, happy and good families.

Clearly, any form of increase acceptance of homosexual lifestyles is against the family, and family values shall not be changed for it.

Getting un-lost

Yesterday my brother casually shared with me a teaching in buddhism: (roughly) Since even [buddhism] laws [that helps one to get enlightened] can be forgo, isn't it more forgoable for secular things which are non-laws. An analogy is in order to get from the current shore to the opposite enlightened shore, the teachings/laws that we follow/practice towards enlightenment are like the boat that bring us across to the enlightened shore. When we reach there, we will forgo the boat since we don't need it.

Relating to another question from a cousin that why some Christians say they cannot enter temples, while some like one of our aunt could? This idea comes to me:

Generally speaking, religions [not in their institutionalised manner] seek to help people who are lost in the secular/temporal world to become less lost or more un-lost. However, it seems to me that many, while becoming un-lost in the secular world, are getting lost in some particular religion institution that they are in. These are what many called the religious people.

I don't consider Jesus and Buddha as religious people. That's why they were unwelcome and kicked out by the religion institutions of their times.

Keep 377A

Read the news yet? Usually only people, typically the minority, who are concern about their wellbeing do such things to make themselves heard. This is unusual! The media is so powerful that "the silent majority" can become the minority.

I encourage you to visit here and give them your support.

Where should newborn sleep?

I thought everything should be natural, but there are so many issues to decide. One of them is: where should newborn sleep?
For nursing purpose, baby should sleep very near to mother, but there are risk for the small body sleeping next to adults on the same bed. Looking through the products on sale using babycenter coupons and babyage coupons, there seems to have some alternatives: Arm's Reach co-sleeper, a close and secure sleeper or may be a NightForm Infant Positioning Bed might also do.
By the way, I noticed that the price (excluding shipping) for the secure sleeper is much more expensive than what I saw 2 days ago.

There are also a whole range of products on discount using online coupons.

Easy = Difficult

Recently weeks there are discussions on a difficult mathematics examination paper in this year PSLE.
It seems that some questions in it were difficult.

To me, there is not much different if an easy or a difficult question is set. If it is easy, then most will probably score. If it is difficult, then most will probably not score. Overall, it doesn't really affect my score/grade. Rather, I dislike easy question because I must make the efforts to do and get it right, whereas for a difficult question, I may choose to skip it but my score for it may be the same with many who spent time doing it yet didn't get it right.

Furthermore, I am one of those [selfish ones] who when spotted a faulty question will keep quiet and move on, since eventually the teachers have to void that question. I hate it when at later times, especially near to the end of the given time, someone raise the issue and the teacher announce an correction to the question. I think that is being unfair by making correction half way through an examination.

What matters is when a question is easy or difficult only to you or a small group of students. Otherwise, no problem.

Thinking further, I suspect it was the nice but unrealistic pictures that parents/teachers have given to students that causes some of them to be annoyed by not being able to score 100% due to some out of scope difficult question. I think this is an issue that should be addressed. The over ideal system in school is harmful in terms of getting students ready for the world. People who grew up in system-less environment probably have much higher ability to adapt and excel in the real world.

Is it our fault?

Not all thinks global warming is due to human. Furthermore, is global warming a disaster to be or can be avoided? Or is it just natural changes? Have there been people who try to stop the temperature from rising during summer and vice-versa during winter?

Quoting from an article:

----------
But Dr Gray, whose annual forecasts of the number of tropical storms and hurricanes are widely publicised, said a natural cycle of ocean water temperatures - related to the amount of salt in ocean water - was responsible for the global warming that he acknowledges has taken place.

However, he said, that same cycle meant a period of cooling would begin soon and last for several years.

...

"The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major effect on global temperatures," Dr Gray said.

He said his beliefs had made him an outsider in popular science.

"It bothers me that my fellow scientists are not speaking out against something they know is wrong," he said. "But they also know that they'd never get any grants if they spoke out. I don't care about grants."
----------

On matters about science, who would you listen more to, a scientist, or a politician's movie?

Many think that after having freedom, they will be happy.
However, I learnt from a wise man that it is the other way around.
When you are happy, then naturally you have freedom.

Warm or cool, which is more terrible?

I found this in an article:
---------------------
One of Gore's climate-change "deniers," Robert Giegengack, chairman of the department of earth and environmental science at the University of Pennsylvania, says: "In terms of (global warming's) capacity to cause the human species harm, I don't think it makes it into the top 10."

Of Gore's claim that temperatures are increasing solely because man-made CO2 is trapping the sun's heat, Giegengack says: "That's plain wrong. . . . It's a natural interplay. As temperature rises, CO2 rises, and vice versa. It's hard for us to say CO2 drives temperature. It's easier to say temperature drives CO2."

R. Timothy Patterson, a professor of geology and director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre of Canada's Carleton University, says that "CO2 variations show little correlation with our planet's climate on long, medium and even short time scales. . . . It is global cooling, not warming, that is the major climate threat to the world, especially Canada."
---------------------

Although it seems that the credentials of the recent anti-global warming documentary are not so good, I think many arguments in it are valid. When we don't have energy, what could we do? When we have too much energy, we may direct them into proper channels.

How many could afford a garage here?

Here, garage may be most frequently used in the phrase "garage sale," although it seldom occurs in a garage. To my surprise, a Google "define:garage" gives meanings in different contexts, a verb, a building for cars, and even a form of pop music.

I visualized it as a sheltered storage space/room, primarily for vehicles. However, for people who put more than just a car in it, they will need garage storage cabinets. These and other products for the garage, such as garage refrigerator, attic lift, fan and skylight, can make the garage another room in your house.

Living in this expensive, small and crowded island, garage still exists only in my dream. Nevertheless, some of their products may be of interest to me. A bike rack for my bicycle, or a motorized cooler seems fun for play and use.

Ask, and you will be told

Asked by waukeene
Why would the serpent set itself up to be the recipient of God's wrath?
What did it have to gain? Why bring death upon itself?

-------------------
My humble Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

The serpent symbolizes the Archangel Lucifer in the story recorded in the scriptures through receiving of revelations years after the happenings in the garden of Eden, to teach the people of the time. Lucifer and other angels were created as servant/helper position to assist God in the creation. Before the creation of Adam and Eve, they were the beings who are most alike to God, and thus enjoy the most loved from Him. After the creation of Adam and Eve, they "lost" this most loved position as Adam and Eve were to be the children of God, who is even more so as the image of God, and thus received love from God at a higher level than the archangels.

For people who have observed the reactions of most first born when the second born arrives on earth, you can see the similarity.

Lucifer probably didn't consciously decide to seduce Eve but naturally attracted to her as she, being the last that is created, was the most beautiful creature on earth. However, all of them knew of the commandment given to Adam and Eve, but it was the responsibility Adam and Eve to follow the commandment.

In our world, there are many who have done many stupid things to the extend of bringing death upon themselves in the process to obtain love. Lucifer was the first who started this. Eve and Adam, through following Lucifer's word instead of God's words, inherited such elements from him, no longer a pure creation of God, and thus God could not love Adam and Eve, and their descendants freely as His children, because Lucifer and his gang have been accusing human beings as not worthy to be the children and to receive the love of God.

Now, give some thoughts to it, who is most sad? Lucifer? Adam? Eve?

No, it is the parent and master, God who is most sad.

Lets learn and not make similar mistakes:
1) Learn to see from God's point of view, or a point of view that put the greater good at higher priority than oneself. Lucifer knew God's plan, he knew he will have such feeling of lack of love, but he should put God's desire at the priority over his own desire.
2) Learn to hold on to own proper position, or play the correct role. Lucifer is created as servant/helper, thus should not leave this position, causing great damage to God's plan to create an ideal world where all can receive His love through proper channel.
3) Learn to live in proper order and structure. Eve's position as daughter of God should not have followed a servant/helper position Lucifer, and Adam's position as son of God and elder brother of Eve should not have followed Eve's proposal. They should know that they are answerable to God, and thus should have followed and consulted God when in doubt.
4) Learn to admit mistakes, if already made, and sincerely repent for them and accept the undesirable consequences. After erred, Eve felt bad to be the only one who did wrong, shouldn't have led Adam to err, but should have gone to God to repent. Adam too should have gone to God to repent instead of hiding. Doing so, they avoided responsibility and consequences, but also lost the position of masters of the universe. Thus, they became the servant of the servant Lucifer. In Jesus' words, ...of their father the devil...

In his WorldNetDaily column, "How a Gay Rights Leader Became Straight," Glatze writes:

Part of the homosexual agenda is getting people to stop considering that conversion is even a viable question to be asked, let alone whether or not it works.

In my experience, "coming out" from under the influence of the homosexual mindset was the most liberating, beautiful and astonishing thing I've ever experienced in my entire life….

I believe that all people, intrinsically, know the truth. I believe that is why Christianity scares people so much. It reminds them of their conscience, which we all possess….

As a leader in the "gay rights" movement, I was given the opportunity to address the public many times. If I could take back some of the things I said, I would. Now I know that homosexuality is lust and pornography wrapped into one. I'll never let anybody try to convince me otherwise, no matter how slick their tongues or how sad their story. I have seen it. I know the truth.

I am not saying people with such [G/L/H] tendencies are wrong. However, I do feel that it is wrong to suggest that such tendencies as within the natural tendencies.
