In this modern age, people are asking if this and that is legal or not. Is that the ultimate guideline for us to follow? Have we forgotten this thing called the conscience? By the way, are we to base our acts solely on the laws?
Things that are so obviously wrong that all the while nobody finds the need for such obvious things to be explicitly stated in the laws. Interestingly, when some raise the question asking if such obviously wrong thing is wrong, there are people who really try to answer the question. More surprisingly, such obviously wrong thing could be argued to be not wrong just because legal laws didn't say so!

Mind and body age mismatch
Just heard from wife some days ago that son's classmate is a boy who was abandoned by both his father and mother. We know of another boy in our neighborhood whose young parents were separated less than a year after married and he is raised by his paternal grandparents.
We are not social workers. I believe social workers have more to tell.
Physical body grows according to natural laws, while [spiritual] mind grows from life experiences and guidance from parents and elders. There is too much academic education for the brain, yet virtually no proper education for the mind.

Ultimately it is not about money
Recently I've been reading about financial planning. I am not a book person, instead of books, I read about some blogs whose authors describe their journey of growing wealth. Learn a lot from these readings.
An important concept in financial planning is deciding between wants and needs. Even though this is subjective, most if not all understand that money is not everything. A purpose of growing one's wealth is to have good life, not to have huge numbers to describe how wealthy one is. Thus, it is unwise to go too much towards one extreme where one minimized his wants, and even needs.
I think there are important things that shouldn't wait. I think many people in Singapore waiting for a new HDB flat for starting family is a terrible

前车之鉴
The last sentence in What same-sex "marriage" has done to Massachusetts says:
To the rest of America: You've been forewarned.I feel strongly that it should be: ...
To the rest of the world: You've been forewarned.

Why marry?
Singaporeans list key challenges to marriage and parenthood, which includes difficulty in finding suitable partners, owning a home, financial security, work—life balance, and childcare arrangements.
However, I think the most important issue is not these difficulties and challenges faced by Singaporeans. Fundamentally, it is the lack ...
of understanding of why marriage?
In the business world and the study of management, it is already very clear to many of the importance of vision and mission statements. Once these are clear, then difficulties will be viewed as challenges to be overcome. Otherwise, they are just excuses and obstacles people use to avoid responsibilities.
In majority of the history, the task of finding suitable partners is not done by either of the partner. Owning a home, or having financial security first are ridiculous ideas, conflicting with the wisdom in the proverb 成家立业 (establish a family, then build a legend).
I hope the government stop losing themselves in trying to solve such trivial issues by not clearly stating the correct understanding of why marriage. By the way, let me pre-empt by saying that why marriage is NOT for population sizes, nor national prosperity.

"You can't" and "I can"
What are the differences between these two phrases: "You can't get good score" and "I can get good score"?
The former focus on "you" and what you "can't" achieve, while the latter focus on "I" and what I "can" achieve.
What is the reason to make the first type of statement? When it is more likely to focus on "you" then "I" and "can't" than "can". What kind of situations could that be? ...
When there isn't much to say about "I" and/or about "can".
When a person can achieve something, would he be interested in telling people that who are the people who can't achieve it? I don't think so. Thus, when someone is telling the world who can't achieve something, I bet the unmentioned fact is that this person also can't achieve it.
Thus, when we read news such as Abstinence [programmes] 'not effective', I bet the opponents also didn't achieve effectiveness, else shouldn't they mention it? Also, it should suggest that there are growing number of supportive people and beliefs that abstinence programmes work, which typically imply there are evidence that abstinence programmes work. Furthermore, by conducting studies targeting on some selected abstinence programmes, but none of other programmes, is quite a bias approach.
More importantly, the results only suggest that the situation is quite bad, and I don't think they are showing that the situation is getting worse. In addition, abstinence programmes are not controlled experiments where the subjects are not allowed to be influence by many other things that they are exposed to in their daily life. I would say that common sense should point towards the argument that when abstinence programmes are not effective yet, shouldn't we reinforce them, and tune down other counter influences, especially in media and adults' behaviors, that are undermining the effectiveness of such programmes.
E.g. "Have sex without love is wrong, or isn't ideal" should be a better and correct message than "Have sex before the age of 16 is not allowed" which is obviously a way for adults to hide from guilt.

Destiny and Lineage
It has been some time since I seriously wrote something here. The ranking of this blog has been dropping :( However, I doubt I have something serious to write about now. May be I can talk about the Mas Selemat escape, but that is not too relevant to this blog. Or may be I can talk about some drama that I have been watching, such as CSI, Lost, 24 hour, etc. Ah, thought of something to write :)
Do you feel proud to be selected/recruited/employed by your current company? Would you prefer to be proud? I think it is nice to feel being valued, and being expected to be able to create more value for the company. It is nice to have a company willing to commit the costs for hiring me.
Similarly, do you feel proud to be borned into your family? ... Would you prefer to be proud? However, which family one is being borned into is out of the person's choice, unlike the case of choosing which company to send resume to. Nevertheless, we want to be proud. If already being proud, we should want to be more proud. In another words, it is our destiny to create value for our family, and to our lineage.
In this perspective, I can better appreciate the Chinese saying, 不孝有三无后为大. On looking up this phrase, I just learned that the other two are also very relevant (my own translation):
阿意曲从,陷亲不义,一不孝也; (First unfilial [non-]action: Blind obedience, not correcting parents' mistakes, and thus allowing parents ending up in dishonorable state.)
家贫亲老,不为禄仕,二不孝也; (Second unfilial [non-]action: Being poor when parents are old, yet still not working so as to take good care of them.)
不娶无子,绝先祖祀,三不孝也。 (Third unfilial [non-]action: Being unmarried [or w/o a wife], and without child [or a son], and thus discontinuing the lineage passed down from ancestors.)
三者之中无后为大。 (Among the above three unfilial [non-]actions, without descendants is the worst.)
In a way, regardless we like these or not, or we are able to achieve these or not, these and many other roles and responsibilities are our destiny.

As if their tails (as if they have) is being stepped on
Would not showing homosexuality publicly hurt those who choose to be of this "minority1" group? I don't know. Err, actually, I think it doesn't hurt them.
Would showing such hurt those who ...
- are naturally heterosexual? Yes, it does.
- have conservative, or I prefer long accepted moral standards? Yes, it does.
- have faiths, such as Islam, Unificationism, etc. that condemn such stuffs? Yes, it does.
I support and encourage the Singapore's Media Development Authority for being firm on such issues. There are always pros and cons. Here, the cons is some self-defined homosexual people would be offended, while many many others would applau us. Thus, the net results is we would be attracting more people to Singapore, as this is a unique and rare place that uphold such moral standards.
1 Quoted not because of their numbers, but because of the difference from the use of the word in "minority races."

What if the lack of parent is somebody's intentional fault?
"...having a baby is definitely not something I regret too - I think it's heaven's blessing."
I am quite agree with the above statement.
However, I don't agree when ... it is coming from a single mom.
Furthermore, I am even against it as it is coming from a celebrity.
Furthermore still, I consider it a second offense as she is already a single mom of her first child, from a different dad.
If orphans who lost their parents due to unforeseeable circumstances are sympathized by us, shouldn't those who intentionally, or recklessly "create" [half-]orphans be considered criminals?

Family Rights
Read an article about TNT babies, which are babies born from Filipino moms who are not allowed to get pregnant. I always do not like the arrangement of foreign maid. What happen to their families, or even their life?
When we are tired of sweeping the floor, we can get a vacuum machine to ease the job. When we are tired of hand washing clothes, we can get a washing machine to ease the job. When we are tired of washing dishes, we can get a dish washer machine to ease the job. But, ... maids are not machines.
When we need help in caring for kids, we get nanny to helpout. However, it is OK if the nanny is part time. May be the kids go to the family of the nanny, which is OK for the nanny, though not so OK for the kids. May be, the nanny comes over but go home daily. But, foreign maids can't go home daily, some not even able to afford to do so yearly.
When will the world, and societies realize clearly the importance of Family Rights? We have Human Rights for many decades. Some "Human Rights", or I call them individual rights, are destroying Family Rights. Put it technically, when will more decisions be make in alignment to system thinking.
Everyone should have come from a family, and shall have the goal of setting up his own family. Having a foreign maid to sacrifice her family life for years so that my family life can be easier is quite terrible, I think. Some may think this is a win-win arrangment, but I say this is like only looking at revenues, but not all expenses. Or, I think such is a terrible "win-win" arrangment, while better ways must exist for a better win-win.

No need to know is better
Finally, I managed to locate more details about the survey I was searching for. According to this article, Many S'poreans still ignorant about Aids, in AsiaOne.
To stop the spread, some of those myths are good so that people can be more careful. It may not transmit throug kissing, but here, kissing is kissing, period. Practically, kissing doesn't usually stop at kissing. Also, medically, kissing with wounded openings in or near the mouth should still allow trasmission of the virus. It may not transmit through mosquito bite. However, if someone who is HIV positive but doesn't know mistakenly suspect that he/she might have been infected by a mosquito and go for a test, then that will make him/her know and be able to take proper step not to unintentionally keep spreading the virus.
In fact, I think we should not need to know so much about AIDS/HIV if we have only one sexual partner, who is our life long spouse, within marriage. Thus, from another angle, the "ignorance" might reflect the high percentage of normal people who don't practice sexual promiscuity.
The survey, which polled 705 people, was conducted by World Vision in conjunction with its One Life Experience (OLE) exhibition on World AIDS Day last December.I sense that all the other media/blogs that reported the figures in this survey are mocking at us. Without any other reference point, it sounds like Singaporeans are really terrible not know AIDS/HIV that well. However, ... are we that bad? one third is quite on par with the G7 countries in their more thorough survey. Then, regarding mosquito bites, it is only us since I found this article 3 years back, Filipinos highly misinformed about AIDS: survey (I'm sorry to mention Filipinos here.)
Most Filipinos still believe HIV/AIDS can be transmitted by a mosquito bite or by sharing the food of an infected person, a government survey showed...Besides the figures, again I want to question the ultimate motives of all these AIDS/HIV related organisations. Is their top most priority to stop the spread? Or is it to help the infected ones to live a normal life?

Singapore, winner of Youth Olympics 2010
In the report FACTBOX-Facts about Singapore, winner of Youth Olympics, there is this point mentioned:
"* Singapore is famous for its tight social controls and restrictions on the sale of chewing gum. Homosexuality is illegal and pornography is banned. Demonstrations are illegal, while public speaking and gatherings of more than four people require a permit. Reporters Without Borders' 2007 press freedom index ranked Singapore 141st out of 169 countries ... So what?, after Azerbajian and Sudan, reflecting restrictions on the media and arts."
These are what I would like Singapore to retain, which is something rightfully described by the slogan Uniquely Singapore! Majority of the media and arts is not doing service to the world. Restricting them is actually not enough. More need to be done to channel them in the better direction.
I find FACTBOX does not have a neutral stand about Singapore. Doesn't matter, since the fact is, Singapore has won the competition to host the first Youth Olympic in 2010! Congratulations! Also read about it in these reports, Olympics-IOC awards 2010 Youth Games to Singapore, and Singapore ecstatic at winning Youth Olympics bid.

Not only on Valentine Day
I do not really celebrate Valentine Day, and now I'm already the father of my first son for almost three months. People like me loves phrases such as "everyday is Valentine Day", "I love you everyday rather than only on special days", etc.
So does Coupon Chief that provides one stop resources of online coupons everyday. Thus, although today is already Valentine Day, you might still find a good coupon here and possibly in time for delivery. Otherwise, there is the other saying -- better late than never.
Just make a quick "trip" there now! Or you can go directly to these merchants, Zappos coupons and New York & Company, who are giving 50% off on shoes and pants!

Even the devil can cite Scripture
Shakespeare said it this way: "Even the devil can cite Scripture for his purpose."
I think it happens in this research: A function for "gay genes" after all?
Just because gay men do not have their own family to take care of, and therefore ... are available to offer more time and care for their nieces/nephews, the researchers suggested this as an evolutionary support for gay way of life.
Rather than suggesting an obvious common sense that children with more adults who, regardless of sexuality, are available to take care of them are better than those with only their own parents, the researchers seem to have preset what their conclusion should be and designed a limited research for their purpose.
Furthermore, this is done with the knowledge of many other similar failed research attempts to make such conclusion in modern societies. Instead, they argue, or rather blame and accuse that, it is due to "anti-gay biases", gay men couldn't do the same as in the selected "relatively un-westernized land", Samoa. By the same logic, I say it is because the modern societies lack "traditional, tribally-based cultures, that often have tighter-knit families," such that little support for adults, regardless of sexuality, to take care of their nieces/nephews.
It is not "anti-gay biases," but "family and marriage unfriendliness" in modern societies that we should focus on!

No Sex Allowed - Milo Turk
CD: Available from cd Universe.
Video: His performance during the American Idol audition, on youtube:
Lyrics: this is the best I could manage to put together the lyrics found on the web:
I'm sitting around minding my biz
Something is wrong and I don't know what it is
My love comes around she's an Oedipus Rex
She starts playing with me, all she wants is Sex
But take it from me hear what I say
I don't need that there's a better way
So I promised her love as she sings along
Cause sex is weak and love is strong
Whoooooooo
No Sex Allowed
I don't want to be part of your crowd
No Sex Allowed
If you don't like it - Get out of Town!
We touch and we feel our bodies just so
whether she's satisfied, I don't know
She complains that she wants to go all the way,
I think about it myself, but then I say
"Stop it now, the subject's getting old,
cause you don't use no birth control…."
She said "listen boy, what's the matter with you,
don't you dare deny that you want sex too,"
I said "it's something that you can't explain,
you're headed for the sun like a fool in the rain."
HIV, pregnancy, and then what's next,
is it really worth it to have sex?

Beware of romance
The first definition from a Google search for define:romance is
love affair: a relationship between two lovers
Sound ok to me initially, but what exactly does the word "affair" imply?
These are found from a similar Google search for define:affair:
Definitions of affair on the Web:
matter: a vaguely specified concern; "several matters to attend to"; "it is none of your affair"; "things are going well"
a usually secretive or illicit sexual relationship
a vaguely specified social event; "the party was quite an affair"; "an occasion arranged to honor the president"; "a seemingly endless round of social functions" wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
An affair is a form of nonmonogamy. The term may be used to describe infidelity in marriage. It may be used as a euphemism and in some cases to add glamour to an illicit liaison. Describing a relationship as an 'affair' may be inaccurate or intentionally damaging. ...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affair
Wow!!! So, beware!

What a luxury!
To the poor ones, to have three meals daily is a luxury.
From this perspective, an article title "The luxury of being a [full-time] mother" means that career women are comparative to the poor ones.
Isn't it natural for father to be the sole bread winner of a family. The role of mother is very important but has been devalued in recent decades.
Did all these advancements in developed countries/cities make most woman became "poor" because they are stuck in the middle, between being successful in career (by sacrificing their family), and being able to have the "luxury" to be a mother.

My Big Fat Moonie Wedding
Did you arrive here while searching for the above "documentary"? If so, then you must watch this too.
The director is a child of one of those marriages.
The media industry seems to be going from reporting facts to selling whatever can sell.
I watched a few episodes of a documentary about "UFO" that tries to fairly present arguments from both sides, at least I feel so. Thus, I do feel unfulfilled after watching as it always ends without making a stand. This might affect its sales as people from either side will not fully endorse it.
Anyway, a 1L glass containing 500ml of water can be perceived as half full or half empty. Interviewing less than 10 failures out of 2000 over marriages should suggest high success rate. Otherwise, there wouldn't be more of such event, with growing numbers, including many of their children.
Update:
If you didn't come here from Mhax Prosper related post, I recommend you to pay a visit there for further updates.

"us" versus "you and me," or may be even "me and you"
Read the following in the article, "Why we all need to commit"
"Academics at Denver University have developed a "theory of commitment" that says, essentially, that the best relationships are those in which two people see themselves as "us" more than as "you and me". They make sacrifices for each other, and give priority to each other's needs."
I doubt they think/feel that they are sacrificing for each other. They are very likely just living the usual life of taking care of one own self, only that now the own self consists of more than one persons because the see a single entity "us." I guess this is what some calls husband and wife unity.

So special, yet so common.
This moment, a special moment to me.
After ~266 days, "it" has "ripened".
Yet, such is so common since the population on earth is huge, and has a long history.
Nevertheless, every single being in this huge population is special and unique.
