Motorcyclist fined, banned for negligence
Ha ha, this "needed a driving licence to continue working as a driver for a towing company" makes it more appropriate for him to be barred from driving any vehicle for five [or more] years.
- overtaking a bus on its left.
- did not see Mr Eang riding in front of him between the kerb and the bus.
- exceeded the speed limit.
This punishment will increase the chance of him being alive for the next 5 years.

Natural "disasters"
There is a saying in Chinese, "天灾人祸" combining two types of disasters, natural and man made.
It seems the formal type is much more emphasized when earthquakes occurs, but I wonder if the latter is the main culprit for casualties. The recent earthquake in New Zealand where there isn't a single death, may suggest it is.
Earthquakes don't really kill directly. Most mammals just felt the shake. Most trees don't fall. Most fishes and birds might not even be affected.
Then, how did human beings get killed or injured in earthquakes? I think the recent earthquake in New Zealand quite clearly suggests that earthquakes don't really kill human beings, but many times it was the unsafe/unnatural structures that were designed and built by human beings that killed and injured the victims.

Nice quotes from spam comments
This blog has become a receiver of spam comments. Instead of just wasting my time rejecting each as they appear, not wanting to waste the good part of the comments, so I am posting here the nice quotes in these spam comments:

My cycling in Singapore experiences - defensive cycling
Trying to restart my blogging on cycling. Recently Jeanette at The Straits Times Blogs mentioned in her article Two wheels for a change that she started riding bicycle to reduce her use of cars. Among the comments, someone displayed unhappiness worrying that her promoting of cycling on road is irresponsible. However, ironically, studies show that the more cyclists, the safer each will be (see More cyclists means fewer accidents, says report, A Virtuous Cycle: Safety In Numbers For Bicycle Riders and my earlier post).
That will take times. Meanwhile, cyclists should put their own safety at very high priority. Here, let me share about some of my thoughts on defensive cycling.
Firstly, my definition of defensive cycling is a way of cycling to achieve

Look at the smaller numbers
Quoting from the article, Aborting Abortion by Sangeetha Nadarajan.
In 2006, one out of four, or 12,000 babies were aborted. What is more disturbing is that these terminations of pregnancies were not mostly limited to teenagers or unmarried women. A study by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the National University of Singapore in 2002 reported that up to 75 per cent of women who went for abortions were married. The disturbing points are ... :
- One out of four, or 25% of babies were aborted. What should have been a near 0% is now 25%!Up to 75% were married implies at least 25% were not married. What should have been very near 0% is now more than 25%!I wonder, of the 75% married women abortions, are there any, or how many of the aborted babies were not by their husband's.

2nd death?
I am quite young and apolitical to know much about Mr Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam. I respect him just base on the fact that he continues his fight immediately after being cleared of bankruptcy to start a new political party at such old age.
While reading about his news on the Internet, I came across this article ... through Feed Me To The Fish blog. In the article, I think our Former President C. V. Devan Nair suggested that JBJ was leaving the political scene in 1999.
Now, has he left?

My cycling in Singapore experiences - falls
I thought I didn't have many falls, but when I think back, I recall quite a number of them. Unbelievable! Both in managing to recall so many falls, and my not too bad memory. Thus, I won't bother to list all those near fall incidents. There must be many, and most of them didn't leave impression. I shall only mention those that I have impression. I tried to list them chronologically, but I couldn't remember clearly when each of them happened.
Looking at the long list, I shall only blog about them one at a time. Probably this list can be used as the table of contents, but before I think of proper titles, I'll just put down some keywords to help me remember ... .

- Changi Village, racer, car, before the current cycling era
- Kim Keat Avenue Blk 256 void deck, inexperienced
- Lor 5 Toa Payoh accident, against traffic
- Causeway near Malaysia Customs, straight on to the dividing kerb, indecisive
- Clementi Road junction raining spectacles breaks, stupidity
- Lornie road, rain, skid, most near death case
- Lor 7 Toa Payoh, fainted
- Near Cathay Cinema, indecisive, inexperience
- Slipped behind HDB in Whampoa due to oily liquid, fate
- Little India, different traffic culture, poor maintenance
- pot hole in grass patch at South East of Toa Payoh and West Coast Park
- AMK Ave 8 outside MRT racer taxi, poor maintenance
- Approaching Khatib MRT twisted metal rod
- Yio Chu Kang & Lentor accident, quite near death
- Kallang River Park connector, poor maintenance, most badly hurt

Try sneezing with your mouth tightly covered
The article, Taming volcanoes, in world-science.net, a researcher proposes dumping limestone blocks in the way of streaming lava as a way to slow it down, limit its reach and save lives.
Good idea? I don't think so. Imagine someone is going to ... sneeze, and in order to save the people around from exposing to what he is going to expelled out into the air, lets stuff cloth into his mouth! What would happen? He probably will still sneeze. However, since the mouth is blocked, whatever needed to be expelled from his body has got to go through other channels, such as the nose, ears, and even the eyes! This guy won't be happy with this!
I bet the Earth and Mother Nature would not like to be treated this way too!
It is not volcanoe eruptions that kill lives, but the lack of freedom, be it political or otherwise, for people to choose to live away from volcanoes.
Just as the recent earthquake in China. Which kills more people: the earthquake, or the badly built schools? I am curious to know how many animals are killed?
I think from science, we understand more about nature so that we can live with it, but not to distort it for our selfish conveniences.

Cruelty or Teamwork
Many times we see beauties in nature. Some times we see disturbing happenings in nature. For example, the parasite practice described in the article Parasite turns host into bodyguard.
At the end of the article, it highlighted there were some sacrifices by some parasitoid larvae for their brothers and sisters. How are these few being chosen? Whatever the way is, is it fair? ... Nevertheless, because they benefit those who we perceive as their "brothers and sisters", so we use the word "sacrifice".
In the case of the caterpillar, as the parasitoid larvae were not perceived as their "brothers and sisters", its death is a sad and cruel one. What if we see them as a team, can we then sense some beauty in how the caterpillar had "lived for the sake of others".
From a smaller unit, we see unfairness. From a bigger unit, we may see teamwork. E.g. in a family, the husband or the wife can see unfaireness as they are tied down in different ways, one to work and one to house and kids. Alternatively, from the family perspective, there can be beauty of a harmonious family.

What is good?
Enjoy a Fathom event featuring DeathNote at VCM Fathom. Then, think about what is good?
To have some supernatural power is a dream not only fancy by kids because adults ... too wish to have more power to do good. In this movie based on the successful Japanese manga about the owner of a notebook of a death god can end the life of anyone whose name he writes in the notebook. What seems to be an evil power was put to "good" use by the main character, Light Yagami, who vowed to use it to get rid of evil people. However, he is being hunted by a legendary detective, L, when people, even though criminals, started dying mysteriously.
This reminds me of a line by Martin Luther King, Jr., "We never get rid of an enemy by meeting hate with hate; we get rid of an enemy be getting rid of enmity." Thus, sending the evil people to hell is not a solution. Emptying hell is.

One for all and All for One
Is vaccine for you? Actually, most people had it without saying yes, or even ever had had this question in their head. However, in this era, what's the chance that you will be infected if you were not vaccinated? The chance could be very low for certain infections that certain vaccines are designed for. So, should someone then say, "It isn't for me."
Some years back I heard a discussion regarding should individual choice or rights be ignored for the sake of welfare of the population, and make it compulsory for all to be vaccinated?
In 18 Dec 07 TodayOnline's article: a 56 year-old man said: "It's not for me … It's good for single, young men only. Elder and married men like me who have only one partner are more decent and safe." If a person is safe, there isn't any big different to go for the test, other than the extra few dollars to pay. If only "more" decent and safe, i.e. not 100% safe, isn't it good to be tested? And, even if you have only one partner, not questioning faithfulness, but you can't know for sure if your partner is also decent and safe.
Also, another 54 year-old man said: "Testing isn't for me — the more you know, the more problems there will be." This is similar to choosing not to be vaccinated because somebody would rather die if infected. However, this is not about a single person's life, but about avoiding potential epidemic of infectious diseases that can cause much much more lives.
So, one test for the benefits of all, and all live properly for the benefit of One Human Race.

Ask, and you will be told
Asked by waukeene
Why would the serpent set itself up to be the recipient of God's wrath?
What did it have to gain? Why bring death upon itself?
-------------------
My humble Best Answer - Chosen by Asker
The serpent symbolizes the Archangel Lucifer in the story recorded in the scriptures through receiving of revelations years after the happenings in the garden of Eden, to teach the people of the time. Lucifer and other angels were created as servant/helper position to assist God in the creation. Before the creation of Adam and Eve, they were the beings who are most alike to God, and thus enjoy the most loved from Him. After the creation of Adam and Eve, they "lost" this most loved position as Adam and Eve were to be the children of God, who is even more so as the image of God, and thus received love from God at a higher level than the archangels.
For people who have observed the reactions of most first born when the second born arrives on earth, you can see the similarity.
Lucifer probably didn't consciously decide to seduce Eve but naturally attracted to her as she, being the last that is created, was the most beautiful creature on earth. However, all of them knew of the commandment given to Adam and Eve, but it was the responsibility Adam and Eve to follow the commandment.
In our world, there are many who have done many stupid things to the extend of bringing death upon themselves in the process to obtain love. Lucifer was the first who started this. Eve and Adam, through following Lucifer's word instead of God's words, inherited such elements from him, no longer a pure creation of God, and thus God could not love Adam and Eve, and their descendants freely as His children, because Lucifer and his gang have been accusing human beings as not worthy to be the children and to receive the love of God.
Now, give some thoughts to it, who is most sad? Lucifer? Adam? Eve?
No, it is the parent and master, God who is most sad.
Lets learn and not make similar mistakes:
1) Learn to see from God's point of view, or a point of view that put the greater good at higher priority than oneself. Lucifer knew God's plan, he knew he will have such feeling of lack of love, but he should put God's desire at the priority over his own desire.
2) Learn to hold on to own proper position, or play the correct role. Lucifer is created as servant/helper, thus should not leave this position, causing great damage to God's plan to create an ideal world where all can receive His love through proper channel.
3) Learn to live in proper order and structure. Eve's position as daughter of God should not have followed a servant/helper position Lucifer, and Adam's position as son of God and elder brother of Eve should not have followed Eve's proposal. They should know that they are answerable to God, and thus should have followed and consulted God when in doubt.
4) Learn to admit mistakes, if already made, and sincerely repent for them and accept the undesirable consequences. After erred, Eve felt bad to be the only one who did wrong, shouldn't have led Adam to err, but should have gone to God to repent. Adam too should have gone to God to repent instead of hiding. Doing so, they avoided responsibility and consequences, but also lost the position of masters of the universe. Thus, they became the servant of the servant Lucifer. In Jesus' words, ...of their father the devil...

What is bad?
Is death bad?
What about the death of an ant?
What about the death of a bacteria?
What about the death of a cell?
The above and many others are dying constantly. If they die at a slower rate, it is bad.
I say unnatural death is bad, but natural death is nature.
